The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has recently released a new set of guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in children and adolescents. The report outlines specific criteria for clinical evaluation, behavioral and pharmaceutical interventions, and long-term care. It is the first time in 10 years that the guidelines have been revised.

A newspaper summary/review of a workshop conducted in Central Oregon by Dr. Brett has been published at the Madras Pioneer (Dr. Brett's hometown newspaper). In recognizing the difficulties of summarizing more than four hours of information, it must be said that some of the content is reported out of context and does not fully represent the comprehensive behavioral strategies presented or practiced by Dr. Brett. April 27, 2009 • Science Update ADHD Medication Treatment Associated with Higher Academic Performance in Elementary School. Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who take medication to treat the condition tend to do better in math and reading compared to ADHD peers who do not take medication.
